Capacity Strengthening of targeted SMP schools through implementation of Microgrants |

Target area |
Eleven districts of the Khatlon region, namely: Vakhsh, J. Balkhi, Panj, Jaykhun, Farkhor, Temurmalik, Vose, Sh. Shokhin, Kulyab, Muminabad and Khovaling districts. |

Goal |
Creation of enabling conditions for schools of Khatlon region for initiating income-generating activities through establishment of on-school farming – rabbitry, poultry, greenhouse keeping and honeybee keeping |

Specific objectives |
· Contribute to the improvement of overall food security situation through implementation of microgrant ideas (construction of assets) with the purpose to strengthening the capacity of schools for improvement of nutrition and sustainable self-contribution for further project implementation in districts. |

Results |
· Greenhouses with a usable area of 92 square meters have been built in 24 schools and 48 people were trained on greenhouse management; · Rabbit hutches with a usable area of 58 square meters have been built in 24 schools and 18 people received training in rabbits' management/farm management; · Poultry houses (for raising turkeys) with a useful area of 85 square meters were built in 4 schools and 8 people were trained in poultry farming; · In five schools, hives were built for 10 bee colonies and 70 people were trained in beekeeping; · 84 people representing 41 schools received training on various topics for successful farming, mainly greenhouse management, beekeeping, poultry farming and rabbit farming; · All 41 schools have enhanced learning and engagement across the curriculum and provided innovative ways to teach students about wellness and environmental issues, creating not only food-growing spaces but entire learning zones; · Each target school was provided with working capital to generate income; · In the long term, schools have improved their ability to provide more sustainable and self-sufficient nutrition to primary school and vulnerable students. |
